Evangel Convocation to be live streamed Thursday, Aug. 2

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — A special Convocation will be held at Evangel University to formally welcome the new academic year on Thursday morning, Aug. 28, at 10 a.m. Classes began Wednesday morning.

The convocation will be held in the Robert H. Spence Chapel and is open to the public. It can also be watched live streamed here — http://www.evangel.edu/spiritual-life/chapel/chapel-video/

The Evangel faculty and administrators will wear their formal academic regalia; special music will be provided by the Evangel Choral, EU junior Brendan Kendall, and Dr. Mark Bowdidge on organ; and President Carol Taylor will share remarks for the new year.

Evangel draws students from all 50 states and numerous foreign countries.

In honor of Evangel’s diverse student body, this scripture will be read by three students in three languages — Izu Aginwa, in Igbo (Nigeria); Savannah Duncan, in Indonesian; and Anna Schimenti, in English.

“Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Philippians 2:9-11, NIV)

Rounding out the Convocation — the Invocation will be brought by Dr. Tilahun Adera, provost, and the Benediction will be brought by Dr. Byron Klaus, president of the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary.

Evangel is a comprehensive Christian university of arts, sciences and professions located in Springfield, Mo. Evangel offers 65 undergraduate majors and 10 master’s programs. The Assemblies of God Theological Seminary at Evangel offers an additional five master’s and four doctoral degrees.
