Evangel University holds Spiritual Emphasis Week, September 3-6

Published on Aug 28, 2013 by Evangel University News

Evangel University is launching the fall semester with its traditional Spiritual Emphasis Week, taking place September 3-6.

Daily sessions will take place Tuesday through Friday mornings at 10 a.m. in the university’s chapel auditorium. There will also be evening sessions Tuesday through Thursday at 7 p.m. (see schedule below).

All are open to the general public.

“Evangel has students from a wide variety of academic disciplines and church backgrounds,” said John Plake, campus pastor. “During Spiritual Emphasis Week, we come together to connect with one another around our faith in Christ. It’s a very refreshing time for everyone.”

The featured speaker for the week, Dr. Bryan Jarrett, will be speaking on the theme of Possibilities in Evangel’s chapel auditorium. Jarrett is pastor of Northplace Church in Sachse, Texas, a northeast suburb of Dallas.

No stranger to Springfield, he has spoken at Evangel in the past, earned his bachelor’s degree from Central Bible College and holds a Doctorate of Ministry from Assemblies of God Theological Seminary.

This year, with CBC and AGTS consolidating into Evangel, it is the first opportunity to schedule events as a comprehensive university.

“Bryan has a great feel for where we are — he understands the dynamics at all three schools, and he is respected at all three,” said Plake.

Additional speakers include Rev. Doug Clay, General Treasurer of the Assemblies of God USA, and Rev. Brian Schmidgall, lead pastor at MiddleTree Church in St. Louis, Mo. He and his wife, Mary, planted the inner-city church in 2009.
