SPRINGFIELD, Missouri – Evangel University is hosting an art exhibit titled “Behold: The Art of Transformation,” carrying the works of local artist Kurt Caddy. The pieces featured in the exhibit include a variety of materials and substances used to create fusions of color, texture, and metaphor to bring vision to things unseen all around us.

The exhibit is open to the public and will be in place through November 30 in the Fine Art & Design Gallery. The gallery is located in the Lawrence & Alletha Barnett Fine Arts Center.

Exhibit hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Caddy will also present an Artist Talk with a reception to follow on Friday, Oct. 29 from 5-7 p.m.

About the artist

Caddy, an abstract artist and photographer, has been refining, experimenting, and clarifying his creatives processes and defining his creative concept since 2005. While visiting a Lakota Reservation in South Dakota, he encountered brokenness and despair. This experience with broken places and people would collide with his own brokenness and creative giftings to form the foundation for his artistic concepts.

Photographing broken and abandoned spaces is the beginning of the process.  These photos are then transformed by layers of color into images of intense and vibrant beauty. Working with a variety of materials and substrates, he creates a fusion of color, texture, and metaphor to bring vision to the unseen things all around us.

Kurt and his wife, Laura, live on a small rural farm in southwest Missouri. They have three biological and five adopted children. Caddy has ministered with university students on a local campus for over 20 years. His art is deeply informed and inspired by this context. He is currently pursuing a Doctor of Worship Studies with an emphasis on Theology and the Visual Arts.

Caddy has exhibited work in Missouri, Pennsylvania, Montana, Colorado, Arkansas, and New York City.

“I believe that art can be generative and transformative to the viewer and the greater culture,” Caddy said. “Every creative work is infused with the concept that brokenness can be transformed into a refined beauty. I like to call this the Art of Transformation.”
