SPRINGFIELD, Missouri – Evangel University students, faculty, and staff will participate in national Make a Difference Day this Saturday, Oct. 22 from noon to 3 p.m. Participants will complete service projects throughout the local community.
The event is being co-hosted by Evangel’s Center for Compassion and CROSSWalk, Evangel’s student-led ministry team.
“This is a fantastic opportunity to demonstrate love and care for people in our community, beyond our campus,” said Melissa Pulis, associate director of the Center for Compassion. “Our student-led committee has done an exceptional job organizing service opportunities so we can participate in this national day of volunteerism. We believe that when we serve, we’re growing in humility and learning what true compassion looks like. We’re putting our faith into action.”
Participants will be serving at Convoy of Hope, Good Samaritan Boys Ranch, Harmony House, Freedom City Church, Isabel’s House, Life360 Fairbanks, Ozarks Food Harvest, Robberson Neighborhood Association, Springfield Dream Center, Ronald McDonald House of the Ozarks, and Weller Elementary. Projects include bagging groceries, cooking and meal prep, landscaping and yard work, painting, and cleaning.
National Make a Difference Day is observed on the fourth Saturday in October. It is one of the largest collective days of community service in the country.
