SPRINGFIELD, Missouri – Evangel University welcomed three new full-time faculty members for the Spring 2022 semester.

Dr. Shelley Block

Shelley R. Block is an assistant professor of English in the Humanities Department. She previously served the university as an adjunct professor for several years.

“Now that my children are getting older, when the door opened for a full-time position at Evangel, I was excited for the opportunity to increase my interaction with students and faculty,” Block said.

Block holds a Master of Arts in English and a Bachelor of Arts in English Education & Psychology from Southwest Baptist University, as well as a Ph.D. in English from the University of Missouri-Columbia.

When she’s not teaching at Evangel, Block leads a Moms in Prayer group for Cherokee and Kickapoo schools and enjoys a good game of pickleball.

Block and her husband, Joel, have four children and a dog.

Dr. Joseph Williams

Joseph Williams is a professor of chemistry in the Natural and Applied Sciences Department. He and his family recently moved to Springfield from Boston, where he served as a full-time professor of chemistry at Eastern Nazarene College.

“The sincere love and warmth I felt when I visited campus, the many opportunities that I have here to impact and mentor students, and the Christian mission and vision of EU all played a critical part in the decision to uproot our family and move here,” said Williams.

Williams earned his bachelor and master degrees in India, and holds a Doctorate in Chemistry from Syracuse University.

Williams is a fan of the New England Patriots and enjoys playing the bass guitar.

Melinda Jamison

Melinda Jamison is an assistant professor of business in the Business Department. She previously served as an adjunct professor in the department and has been on staff at the university for the past 11 years in the Community Life and Marketing Departments.

“Investing in students is truly where my heart is. There is nothing better than helping students realize that they can use their powerful voices in the business world to really influence change and show the love of Christ,” said Jamison.

Jamison received her bachelor’s degree in Business Education from Evangel and her Master of Business Administration degree from Missouri State University.

Jamison has three children, two of whom attend Evangel and one who is a senior at Hillcrest High School.
