Evangel’s latest student-produced feature film premieres this week

Published on Dec 9, 2024 by Erin Hedlun

SPRINGFIELD, Missouri – EU Films, Evangel University’s student media organization, will premiere its latest feature film, “MRDR 315” on Tuesday, Dec. 10. Screenings will be held at 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. in Barnett Recital Hall, located in the Fine Arts Building on Evangel’s campus. The public is invited to attend. Admission is free and tickets will be available at the door.

The murder mystery film follows the story of student Mara Chase at Central Springs University. When her brother is accused of murdering a professor, Mara and her friend, Alex Forge, must retrace the victim’s last day to find who they believe is the real killer and prove her brother’s innocence.

Dr. Cameron Pace, chair of EU’s Communication Department

“This film is a true ‘who done it’ murder mystery with a mix of danger and fun,” said Dr. Cameron Pace, chair of Evangel’s Communication Department. “The students began working on the project in April and have continued throughout the fall, overcoming obstacles, to produce a premiere-ready piece.”

Local actress Sky Wolfe stars as Mara Chase, and EU student Colten Wilson plays her friend Alex Forge. The film also features community actors Darin Crace, Wyatt Long, and Camden Crace, along with EU faculty members Nancy Pace-Miller and Gene Arnold. The screenplay was written by EU students Natalie Hedgepeth and Jocelyn Squires, with Hedgepeth also serving as director of photography. Additional EU student production roles include Brenna Crace as producer, Mackenzie Franks as assistant director, and Issac Wellborn as chief editor.

EU Films is part of Evangel’s Communication Department. Each semester, students in the Film’s Workshop course produce a 30–60 minute feature film, supervised by Pace, who serves as executive producer.
