Former Attorney General John Ashcroft to speak at Evangel University this Thursday, March 27

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. –John Ashcroft, former U.S. Attorney General, will speak at 2 p.m., Thursday, March 27, in the Barnett Fine Arts Recital Hall at Evangel University.

Ashcroft will serve as a guest speaker for the class Worship Heritage of the Modern Pentecostal Church. The public is invited to attend at no cost.

Ashcroft has cultivated a lifelong appreciation for hymns and gospel music, having personally written numerous hymns and gospel songs.

“It is an honor to have General John Ashcroft on our campus again,” said Dr. Michael Kolstad, music department chair. “His passion for Christian higher education is apparent when he addresses the students.We are excited to have him as our guest.”

This will be Ashcroft’s fourth time to address the Worship Heritage class. For more than 35 years, Ashcroft has been a regular visitor to Evangel, speaking at four graduations, several homecomings and a wide variety of classroom lectures.

John Ashcroft has close family ties to Evangel University – his father, the late Dr. J. Robert Ashcroft, served as president from 1958 to 1974, and both of his brothers are graduates.
