SPRINGFIELD, Missouri – H. Maurice Lednicky was presented with the inaugural Legacy Award in Preaching at a celebration luncheon on Tuesday, Sept. 24 during the Cordas C. Burnett Center for Biblical Preaching’s first annual Lectureship on Homiletics. Lednicky served as president of Central Bible College from 1980-2001 before the institution merged with Evangel University in 2013.
The Legacy Award in Preaching recognizes recipients’ contribution to preaching within the Pentecostal community and offers current and future preachers a model of how to live a life in service to making Christ known in the world by the character of their lives as much as by their preaching.
An ordained minister with the Assemblies of God (AG) for more than 60 years, Lednicky has served the AG fellowship in a wide variety of ministry roles, including several pastorates, AG district youth director, AG national youth director, evangelist, missionary, accomplished author, and international teaching facilitator.
“Across the breadth of the Assemblies of God, it is nearly impossible to find a figure of greater influence than H. Maurice Lednicky,” said Dr. Robert Eby, director of the Cordas C. Burnett Center for Biblical Preaching. “While much of his legacy is built upon his keen intellect and successful leadership in many diverse settings, Lednicky is most clearly known as a preacher above all else. He was the natural and unanimous choice for this honor.”
All future awards in preaching will officially be known as H. Maurice Lednicky Legacy in Preaching Awards in recognition of Lednicky’s unique status within the AG ministerial community.
The award presentation was bookended by guest lecturers Rochelle Scheuermann of A. Duane Litfin Divinity School at Wheaton College and Matthew D. Kim of Baylor University’s George W. Truett Theological Seminary who spoke on preaching hospitably, preaching and emotional intelligence, and contextualizing preaching in a contemporary world.
The Cordas C. Burnett Center for Biblical Preaching is housed in the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary (AGTS). Its aim is to resource and train students and ministers to develop clear, Christ-centered, theologically sound messages that communicate the truth of God’s word.
