SPRINGFIELD, Missouri – Evangel University recently appointed Dr. Terry Yancey to its Advancement Office to serve as alumni pastor and ministry training advocate. Prior to joining Evangel, Yancey served 25 years as the superintendent of the Kansas Assemblies of God (AG) Ministry Network.
“I have enthusiastically advocated for the training of ministers and missionaries for decades, and I look forward to showcasing the amplified commitment of Evangel to this crucial, non-negotiable aspect of our institutional mission,” said Yancey. “An education at EU for those called to ministry leadership will mean they graduate as Spirit-empowered, future-ready church leaders!”
Yancey will serve the university by connecting with its partner churches and providing an additional layer of pastoral support to EU’s extensive alumni network around the globe. He will also provide fundraising support to the advancement team and work with EU President Dr. Mike Rakes to help shape the future of ministry training at the university.
Preceding his role as district superintendent, Yancey served as the district’s youth ministries director from 1994-1999. In the years before network leadership, he and his wife, Karen, served as youth pastors in Nebraska and lead pastors in churches in the Southern Missouri and Kansas AG districts.
Yancey has served on the AG national board of directors as the South-Central Region executive presbyter since 2017 and serves on the AG World Missions (AGWM) Board and Commission on Chaplains.
“We are thrilled to have a leader of Dr. Yancey’s depth and experience join our team,” said Destiny Deas, EU vice president of advancement. “He is a champion of ministry training on every level and will play a vital role in communicating the important mission of EU to leaders and alumni across the world.”
In addition to his role at EU, Yancey is part of the Project Rescue advocacy team, a ministry organization whose mission is to rescue and restore survivors of sexual slavery, exploitation, and human trafficking. He also serves as pastoral support for AGWM missionaries on the field. Yancey earned a bachelor’s degree in Bible from Central Bible College, a Master of Arts in Ministry Leadership from Southeastern University, and a Doctor of Ministry from the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary.
He and Karen have three married children who are all involved in pastoral ministry and seven grandchildren.
