Leasha Ramey Bear Piano Scholarship to honor ’77 music grad

Published on Jan 16, 2020 by Evangel University News

A joyful experience for Leasha was when she performed in a 300 voice choir at Carnegie Hall in the 2016 Christmas in New York Concert.

SPRINGFIELD, MO –  The Leasha Ramey Bear Piano Scholarship was recently established at Evangel University by her family to honor the memory of Leasha. A 1977 graduate of Evangel, she was a beloved music teacher in Willard and Springfield public schools for nearly 40 years.

Leasha battled cancer for the past 14 months and went to be with the Lord on Dec. 23, 2019.

A native Springfieldian, she attended high school in Fair Grove, and graduated from Evangel College with her degree in Music Education. Leasha’s primary instrument was piano, but she was a valuable asset as a bassoonist in the College Band and Concert Band.

Leasha completed her master’s degree at Southwest Missouri State University (now MSU) in 1980. Her exceptional talents and abilities and her strong faith in God were effectively displayed with her students as well as with her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband Jerry, son Justin, daughter Jessica, brother-in-law Ken and wife Sheila, and dad Dewey Ramey.
