SPRINGFIELD, Missouri – Evangel University’s Music Department recently appointed Justin Stanton to serve as director of bands and assistant professor of music. Stanton will officially begin his service with the university on July 1.

Stanton, a 2007 EU graduate, will be responsible for directing the university’s highly regarded Concert Band, Jazz Band, Marching Band, Brass Ensemble, and Woodwind Ensemble. He will also teach a variety of classes for the department.

Stanton replaces Matt Moore, who will continue in the Music Department as program coordinator for the blossoming Recording Technology program.

“Justin is an energetic and confident musician who will begin a new chapter in the legacy of band music at Evangel,” said Dr. Tom Matrone, Music Department Chair. “The Music Department faculty is thrilled to welcome Justin and have unanimously endorsed his appointment.”

About Justin Stanton

Stanton was an active member of EU’s Concert Orchestra, Sinfonia, while a student, traveling to 35 states and seven countries in Europe and Canada with the group.

Following his graduation from Evangel, Stanton served in a variety of music-related public teaching roles in Missouri and Oklahoma, directing elementary music, junior high band, and high school band.

In addition to his teaching career, Stanton is a service member in the United States Army. He enlisted with the United States Army Band in 2011 and was stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington and Fort Sill Army Base in Oklahoma.

He currently serves as a musician with the Oklahoma National Guard 145th Army Band.

That is why I love EU.”

Stanton holds a bachelor’s degree in Music from Evangel and a master’s degree in Education from Arkansas State University. He is also an ordained minister with the Assemblies of God.
