New book from Evangel counseling professor connects research, faith and clinical practice

SPRINGFIELD, Missouri — Dr. Kristen Kansiewicz, program director and assistant professor of graduate counseling at Evangel University, has co-authored a new book with Dr. Paul Loosemoore titled Engaging in Counseling Research with Curiosity and Wisdom: A Christian Integrative Approach. It is available for order on Amazon, IVPress, and wherever books are sold.

Published by IVP Academic, the book guides counseling students and practitioners in approaching research not only as a technical discipline but as a reflective, faith-integrated practice rooted in curiosity, humility, and care for clients and communities.

Kansiewicz and Loosemoore explore how Christian values inform the research process from idea development through interpretation, addressing topics such as spiritual formation, theological grounding, ethical discernment, and cultural humility. Designed for classroom and clinical training, the text includes discussion questions and practical exercises.

“As counselors, our research should not simply generate data, it should deepen wisdom and shape compassionate practice,” Kansiewicz said. “We wrote this book to help students and clinicians see research as meaningful, relational work that honors both scientific rigor and Christian faith.”

Kansiewicz, who holds a Ph.D. in Counselor Education from Regent University, developed the Church Therapy model to integrate clinical mental health services into church settings, and has conducted multiple research studies focused on clergy mental health.

Loosemoore is associate professor and director of the Counseling Department at Covenant Theological Seminary and conducts and publishes research on faith-informed counseling while serving as an educator, clinician, and supervisor.
