SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Evangel University Orchestra will present its spring concert on Tuesday, April 19 at 7:30 p.m. in Spence Chapel, featuring senior Sarah Morris as the featured piano soloist.
The concert is free and open to the public.
Morris is a Rogersville High School graduate. She has studied piano for 17 years under the direction of her father, Dr. Greg Morris, professor of music at Evangel.
She was recently a finalist in the Delta Symphony Concerto Competition and was 1st Runner-up in the Missouri Music Teachers Association Collegiate Piano Competition.
When she is not playing piano, Sarah is a 2nd degree black belt in Taekwondo and holds more than ten national titles and four international medals in martial arts competition.
After graduation, Morris will pursue her master’s degree in piano performance at Texas Christian University.
For the Evangel concert, she will be performing the first movement of Mozart’s “Piano Concerto in A Minor.”
In addition, the Orchestra will play Holst’s “A Somerset Rhapsody,” Berlioz’s “Rakoczy March” and Borodin’s “Polovtsian Dances.”
The Evangel University Orchestra is under the direction of Dr. Larry Dissmore, who is completing his 28th year on the Evangel faculty. The orchestra is comprised of 45 student musicians pursuing majors in music, as well as a variety of other fields available at the University.
