SPRINGFIELD, Missouri – The Evangel University Fine Arts & Design Gallery will be featuring the work of eight seniors via two public art exhibits this month. The first will be held from April 5-12 with an opening reception on Friday, April 5 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The second will be held from April 19-26 with an opening reception on Friday, April 19 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Admission to the exhibit is free and open to the public.

“Several of our seniors have set the bar really high with challenging goals,” said Michael Buesking, professor of art at Evangel. “These students have accomplished some tremendous work. I’m really pleased with how they have taken time for thoughtful introspection, creating pieces that touch on themes important to them via a variety of media.”

Gallery hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The gallery is located inside the Barnett Fine Arts Center on EU’s campus. Visitors wishing to view the gallery should check in at the reception desk in Riggs Hall for access.

The first show will display the work of five graduating B.A. in Art students:

  • Cheyenne Green
  • Taylor Hoffman
  • Mahari Pilo
  • Lauren Spilman
  • Renzie Walkowski

The second show will display the work of three graduating Bachelor of Fine Arts students:

  • Danielle Aubuchon
  • Bethel Childers
  • Sarah Worthley

Art at Evangel

Evangel University is home to the state-of-the-art Lawrence & Alletha Barnett Fine Arts Center, which opened in 2002.

The Art Education degree at Evangel is for creative art students seeking certification to teach in elementary, junior high, or high school grades. EU’s program meets the Missouri state requirements for certification in Art Education, grades K-12.

Students who desire a well-rounded approach to artistic disciplines may earn a Bachelor of Arts in Art degree. The program requires 45 credits in art and is a good option for a double major. The department also offers a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, where students take a wide variety of studio mediums, with an emphasis on studio work or graphic design. Both combine art history courses with practical expertise in various studio areas.
