Symposium on Environmental Stewardship & Sustainability at Evangel University, Sept. 21-22

Evangel University and Convoy of Hope will present a Symposium on Environmental Stewardship & Sustainability on Friday & Saturday, Sept. 21 & 22, 2018. The event will be held at Evangel University, 1111 N. Glenstone Ave., in Springfield, Mo.

The two-day event is open to the public. Registration is required — the symposium is free for local high school and college students and faculty, while the cost is $35 for others.

“The purpose of this symposium is to explore the breadth of environmental stewardship issues that affect all people,” said Dr. Mike McCorcle, provost and executive vice president of Evangel University. “These topics will include theological, scientific, technological, social and ethical considerations.

Author and professor Dr. Sandra Richter will be the keynote speaker, Friday at 6:30 p.m., in the Robert H. Spence Chapel Auditorium. Her topic is “Can a Christian be an Environmentalist?”

Dr. Richter has published and lectured extensively on the biblical-theological aspects of environmental stewardship.

She holds a doctorate from Harvard University, and is a graduate of Evangel’s sister school in Pennsylvania, the University of Valley Forge. She currently serves as professor of religious studies at Westmont College in Santa Barbara, California.

Break-out sessions will be held on both days. Each of the conference presenters are Christian experts in fields related to environmental stewardship and sustainability, and they will discuss trends and topics in TED Talk-styled presentations.
