Evangel students present “A Night on Broadway” to benefit Weller Elementary

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Back by popular demand, a group of Evangel University students are producing “A Night on Broadway” Friday and Saturday, Nov. 22-23, at 7 p.m. Both musical productions are fundraisers to support the children at Weller Elementary school.

The performances will be held in the theatre of the Barnett Fine Arts Center, which faces 1111 N. Glenstone Ave. The building entrance is just south of the Spence Chapel.

Admission will be a donation of winter clothing items, school and art supplies, or a $5 cover charge.

Nathaniel Parrales and Noel Lutes are co-directing the entirely student-led event.

“We will be performing about a dozen pieces featuring a variety of classics, as well as lesser-known songs, including Golden Age musicals such as South Pacific, the beloved Les Miserables, and the 2017 Tony Award-winning Come From Away,” said Parrales, a junior musical theatre major for Dallas, Texas.

The goal is to give students who excel in music, theater and dance an opportunity to participate and perform in a fun environment while doing something good for the local community.

“We have a cast of 11 students from a diverse array of majors and musical backgrounds, and they all bring their unique gifts and talents to the table,” said Lutes, a junior business management major with a theatre minor. She grew up overseas in Kyiv, Ukraine.

Last winter’s inaugural production of “A Night on Broadway” benefited Convoy of Hope. It was met with overwhelming success, as both shows sold out.

Evangel University, with the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary (AGTS), is a comprehensive Christian university committed to excellence in educating and equipping students to serve the church and society globally.

Evangel and AGTS serve more than 2,300 students from all 50 states and numerous foreign countries, offering 70 undergraduate majors and 19 master’s and doctoral degrees.
