SPRINGFIELD, Missouri – Evangel University was recently named among the 2022-2023 Top Performers in Social Mobility in the Regional Universities – Midwest category by U.S. News & World Report. Now in its 38th year, the rankings evaluate more than 1,450 colleges and universities on up to 17 measures of academic quality. Evangel was ranked 28 out of 110 universities.
Students who are economically disadvantaged are less likely than others to finish college, even when controlling for other factors. Universities that are ranked as Top Performers in Social Mobility are successful at advancing students past this challenge by enrolling and graduating large proportions of students who receive Pell Grants.
“This award is significant and supports the work we are doing with EU’s Pell Promise program,” said Chris Belcher, Evangel’s vice president for enrollment management. “We have worked very hard to ensure that we have plans in place that financially support students no matter their socioeconomic background.”
Last fall, Evangel launched its Pell Promise scholarship program, providing 75%-100% (80%-100% beginning next academic year) of tuition gap coverage for Pell Grant recipients. The award is renewable up to four years and underscores the university’s commitment to making an EU education accessible and affordable for all.
U.S. News publishes the Best Colleges rankings each year to provide prospective students and their families helpful data and information on factors such as graduation rates, social mobility, and graduate indebtedness.
“For nearly 40 years, the Best Colleges methodology has continuously evolved to reflect changes in the higher education landscape and the interests of prospective students,” said Kim Castro, editor and chief content officer at U.S. News. “Guiding that evolution is U.S. News’ mission of providing useful data and information to help with one of life’s biggest decisions.”
