Master of Education in Literacy
Evangel University’s Master of Education in Literacy program leads to Reading Specialist Certification. This program prepares teachers to be literacy leaders in the classroom, in clinical settings, and in administrative roles. This program addresses current trends, assessment and effective strategies for reading instruction.

The blended learning design of the literacy program allows you to complete your master's degree at times and places convenient for working teachers. Features of this program include the following:
- Two-year cohort model allows you to step through the course sequence with peers
- One online and one seated course paired each semester to maximize personal learning and provide convenient schedule options
- Summer internships in our on-campus reading clinic for four weeks in June

Each of Evangel's academic programs is made up of a set of core curriculum, program requirements and electives. The courses listed below are just a small sample of courses that might be taken as a part of this specific program.The Master of Education in Literacy leading to Reading Specialist Certification requires 38 credit hours including 6 internship hours. An alternate non-certification track is available requiring 35 credit hours. Below is a sampling.
|Content Area Reading Education||Examines diagnostic, methodological, organizational and administrative issues related to content reading instruction. Emphasis on research and application of strategies for developing functional reading in content fields.|
|Reading Diagnosis||Current trends and procedures used in assessing literacy problems. Classroom and clinical approaches and current research and knowledge base in literacy education.|
|Current Issues and Trends in Reading Education||Current issues and trends in reading education, such as current research and strategies for classroom instruction.|
|Methods of Reading for Students with Literacy Problems||Provides opportunities to explore effective instructional strategies which assist students with literacy problems. Students explore preventative, early intervention, and remedial strategies.|
|Reading Practicum||Provides practical experience in formal/informal assessment of students, diagnosis of student strengths and weaknesses, and planning and implementing instruction for reading improvement.|

- Official Praxis or GRE test scores
The following are general requirements for all students beginning a program at Evangel. Applicants who have met the following criteria will be considered for admission to the Graduate Studies program:
- Hold an earned baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university or be accepted into an Evangel University 5-year BS/MS degree program.
- Have a grade point average of 3.0 or better in the last 60 hours of undergraduate work or last two years as a full-time undergraduate or graduate student.
- Provide official results of required entrance examinations.
- Meet specific departmental requirements as stipulated in the individual program descriptions.
