Evangel University celebrates 70th Anniversary as part of annual Homecoming festivities this weekend

SPRINGFIELD, Missouri — Evangel University’s annual Homecoming weekend is this Thursday through Saturday, October 2-4, where the university will continue its 70th anniversary celebration by welcoming alumni and friends to campus. EU first opened its doors in September 1955.

The community is invited to participate in the weekend’s commemorative events, including:

  • A chapel service on Friday, Oct. 3 at 9:45 a.m. in Spence Chapel with recent EU grads Faith Sando and Zach Myers as featured speakers.
  • A special Homecoming concert featuring various student groups and ensembles from Evangel’s award-winning Music Department on Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. in the Barnett Recital Hall. Admission is free.
  • EU Theatre’s fall production of “Over the River and Through the Woods” on Friday at 7 p.m. in the Barnett Fine Arts Theatre. Tickets are $15 for adults (19+), $10 for seniors (60+), and $7 for students and may be purchased in advance at edu/boxoffice or at the door.

Additionally, various departmental activities will take place on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning, including department-specific alumni recognition.

The university’s 2025 alumni awardees will be formally honored at the Celebration Dinner on Friday evening, a storied Homecoming event.

The Evangel Valor football team will face Kansas Wesleyan at Nixa High School’s Eagle Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 4, at 1 p.m. Tickets may be purchased in advance on the EU Athletics website or at the gate via credit or debit card for $11; admission is free for children 12 and under.
