SPRINGFIELD, Missouri – Evangel University will host its fourth annual Veteran Valor Appreciation Luncheon for veterans and active-duty service members on Friday, April 17 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. All local current and past service members are invited to attend this free event. To reserve a seat, please register at evangel.edu/veteranvalorday.

Those attending the luncheon are also invited to participate in Evangel’s Friday morning chapel service beginning at 9:45 a.m. It will include a special time of reflection and gratitude, where the university will honor the selfless service of military members.

“Veteran Valor Day is an opportunity for our campus community to recognize the courage and selfless dedication of our military service members and their families,” said Ryan Winters, Evangel’s Veteran Center director. “As a university and seminary alum and staff member, it’s a true honor to help recognize lives marked by discipline, sacrifice, and steadfast devotion to both calling and country.”

The university has foundational ties to the military, as its campus was established on the former grounds of the O’Reilly General Hospital, a facility built during World War II to treat wounded soldiers. The university is also home to the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary, among the largest producers of military chaplains in the nation.

The event, instituted by EU President Dr. Mike Rakes in 2023, has become a highlight of the spring semester and allows students and the campus community at large to express appreciation for women and men who personify virtue and valor in service to our country.
