SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Evangel University has announced the addition of alumna Valorie Coleman to the administrative staff as of Jan. 4, 2012. She will serve as assistant director of public relations.

Coleman graduated from Evangel in 1993, earning a B.S. in communications with an emphasis in journalism and a minor in English. She served as editor-in-chief of Evangel’s award-winning newspaper, The Lance, her junior year.

“Those closest to me now are rejoicing that I have come to Evangel to work in my ‘dream job,’” Coleman said. “During my time as a student at Evangel, I was a work study in the public relations office. I truly feel that I have come home!”

The work of the Department of Public Relations & Publications includes media relations, writing and distributing all University press releases, producing Vision magazine, oversight of advertising campaigns for local and national media, and oversight of official EU social media, including Facebook and Twitter. The department also assists with the production of all publications targeted for off-campus use.

As a division of Institutional Advancement, PR also works in support of all fund raising and alumni relations efforts and activities.

“Valorie will be a great asset in our efforts to expand our reach and exposure, both locally and nationally,” said Paul K. Logsdon, who celebrated 24 years as Evangel’s director of public relations and publications on the day that Coleman started.

After graduating from Evangel, Coleman worked at the Assemblies of God Headquarters for five years, starting in the Office of Public Relations, then serving as assistant editor in the Christian Higher Education Department. During her time there, she helped start On Course magazine, the fellowship’s award-winning national youth magazine. Her work in the department also consisted of promoting all Assemblies of God colleges to their constituency.

Coleman has had many unique career opportunities including owning and operating a retail business, serving as executive administrative assistant at the Four Diamond resort Chateau on the Lake in Branson, Mo., and writing for many of the national publications of the Assemblies of God including thePentecostal Evangel.
