SPRINGFIELD, Missouri – EU Launch kicks off at Evangel University this Friday, Aug. 19 as new and transfer students arrive for the 2022-23 academic year. EU Launch provides an immersive schedule of events for students and their families to settle in on campus and experience the university’s vibrant community life.

EU’s six residence halls will be open for new student move-in from 8 a.m. – noon on Friday. Evangel student leaders, faculty, staff, and volunteers will be on hand to assist with move in efforts. New commuter students will be able to check-in at Riggs Hall atrium from 2 – 3 p.m.

A variety of interactive and informative EU Launch events are scheduled for Friday through Tuesday, Aug. 23. Classes begin on Wednesday, Aug. 24.

Due to construction on Division Street, the westbound lane north of Evangel’s campus is closed to traffic. Students, faculty, and staff traveling west on Division may enter campus via detours on Glenstone Avenue at Park Drive, Elm Lane, or Evangel’s main entrance in front of Riggs Hall.

Evangel’s incoming student body includes individuals from 38 U.S. states and 11 foreign countries – Serbia, Germany, Zimbabwe, Israel, Barbados, Ecuador, New Zealand, Croatia, and Bolivia.

EU Launch highlights

EU Launch helps ease the transition for new students and their families during the first few days on campus by connecting them with faculty, staff, and other students to foster a sense of community and belonging.

Friday at 7 p.m., parents may participate in a come-and-go dessert reception to connect with EU’s new president, cabinet members, and other parents. At the same time, new students will meet their EU Launch leaders and connect with smaller groups of other new students.

Saturday from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m., new students will participate in a day of community service in partnership with Convoy of Hope. Students will serve at a drive-through grocery distribution event at Weller Elementary for its students and families. They will also assist in grocery bagging activities at Convoy’s warehouse.

Sunday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. students and their families will participate in an all-Evangel worship service in Spence Chapel.

Monday at 6:30 p.m., an “EU Excursions and Launch Out” event will allow new students to explore Evangel’s campus and the greater Springfield area with their Launch groups.

Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. the annual “End of Summer Bash” will provide an opportunity for students to play games, enjoy dinner and Pineapple Whip on the quad, and meet with other new and returning students.

Special focus on community service

Community service is an integral part of the Evangel experience, and each year new students begin their time on campus with a dedicated day of service in coordination with EU Launch activities.

“The Community Service Day is an exciting part of EU Launch,” Steve McMichael, director of Evangel’s Center for Compassion, said. “This event is vital in establishing a culture of compassion and service within the student body.”

The day of service is sponsored by Evangel University’s Center for Compassion in partnership with Springfield-based Convoy of Hope.
