SPRINGFIELD, Missouri – EU Launch kicks off at Evangel University this Friday, Aug. 20 as new students arrive for the 2021-22 academic year. EU Launch provides an immersive schedule of events for both new students and their families that allow them to learn more about life at Evangel and settle in on campus.

The university’s six residence halls will be open for new student move-in from 8 a.m. – noon this Friday. Evangel student Launch leaders, faculty, staff, and volunteers will be on hand to assist with move in efforts. New commuter students will be able to check-in at Riggs Hall atrium from noon-2:45 p.m.

EU Launch events are scheduled for Friday through Tuesday, Aug. 24.

The first day of classes for Evangel will be Wednesday, Aug. 25.

Evangel’s student body includes individuals from 37 U.S. states and eight foreign countries – Great Britain, Thailand, Brazil, Ukraine, Japan, Greece, Ireland, and Pakistan.

EU Launch highlights

Evangel University endeavors to ease the transition for new and returning students during their first few days on campus by connecting them with faculty, staff, and other students, creating fun memories, and igniting lifelong friendships.

Friday evening at 7 p.m., parents may participate in a come-and-go dessert reception to connect with EU’s new president, cabinet members, and other parents. At the same time, new students will meet their EU Launch leaders and connect with smaller groups of other new students.

Saturday from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m., new students will participate in a day of community service in partnership with Convoy of Hope. Students will serve at a drive-through grocery distribution event at Weller Elementary for its students and families. They will also assist in grocery bagging activities at Convoy’s warehouse.

Sunday morning from 10:30-11:30 a.m. students and their families will participate in an all-Evangel chapel service in Spence Chapel.

New students enjoy Pineapple Whip during Luau on the Lawn (2019).

Monday evening at 6:30 p.m., a “Launch Out” event will allow new students to explore various venues around Springfield with their Launch groups.

Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. the annual “Luau on the Lawn” will provide the opportunity for students to play games, enjoy dinner and Pineapple Whip on the quad, and meet with other new and returning students.

At 9 p.m. on Tuesday, the annual igNIGHT ceremony will take place as the entire campus family rings in the new academic year. The celebration will end with an exciting fireworks display.

Special focus on community service

Community service is an integral part of the Evangel experience, and each year new students begin their time on campus with a dedicated day of service in coordination with EU Launch activities.

“The Community Service Day is an exciting part of EU Launch,” said Steve McMichael, director of Evangel’s Center for Compassion. “This event is vital in establishing a culture of compassion and service within the student body.”

The day of service is sponsored by Evangel University’s Center for Compassion in partnership with Springfield-based Convoy of Hope.
