SPRINGFIELD, MO — Back by popular demand, the Evangel University Auxiliary will once again be holding its Colossal Garage Sale on May 15-18, 2019, in the Mabee Student Fitness Center on the northwest side of the campus.

Clothing, small appliances, jewelry, books and office items, toys, furniture and other household goods will be among the items for sale.

“A very nice bedroom set and mattress were given to us for the sale,” said Marilyn Quigley, one of the retired faculty members volunteering this year.

Evangel’s library also donated VCRs, cameras, tape recorders and other hard-to-find electronic devices.

The event will help raise funds for academic projects funded by the Auxiliary.

The sale will last four days:

• Wednesday, May 15 — 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

• Thursday, May 16 — 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

• Friday, May 17 — 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. — 1/2-PRICE DAY

• Saturday, May 18 — 8 a.m. – noon — $5-A-BAG DAY

Saturday is BAG SALE day, where shoppers will be able to fill a provided bag for $5!

Constant support

“Since the beginning of Evangel in 1955, the ladies of the Evangel Auxiliary have been a constant support by volunteering time and talents,” said Dr. Michael Kolstad, vice president for university advancement.

“Their earliest efforts provided curtains and furniture in the dorms for our very first group of students.”

The Ladies’ Auxiliary has been holding an annual fundraising sale since 1964. In 1980, they held the first all-college sale in the gym with clothing and things donated or left behind by the students.

Major projects funded by the EUA have included the Heritage Room in Riggs Hall, the massive Schantz Pipe Organ in the chapel, the second and third floor lobbies of Trask Hall, lighting and stage curtains for the Barnett Fine Arts Theatre and uniforms for Evangel’s marching band.

The Colossal Garage Sale went on hiatus after the 2014 event, and was revived in 2019, with an influx of younger members of the Auxiliary.
