Evangel students named to 2013 MMEA All-Collegiate Orchestra

Published on Feb 13, 2013 by Paul K. Logsdon

Evangel University students Katelyn Lawler, junior, and Gregory Dissmore, senior, were recently selected to participate in the 2013 All-Collegiate Orchestra, sponsored by the Missouri Music Educators Association.

The event took place Jan. 23-25 at Tan-Tar-A Resort in Lake of the Ozarks, Mo., and was dedicated to celebrating MMEA’s 75th anniversary. The orchestra, conducted by Erin R. Freeman, performed Prokofiev’s Suite from Romeo and Juliet and The Gazebo Dances by John Corigliano. Freeman currently serves as associate conductor and James Erb Choral Chair for the Richmond Symphony.

The All-Collegiate Orchestra students were selected to perform with this group based on the nominations of their college orchestra directors and a subsequent audition process. This particular ensemble performs on a four-year rotation at the annual MMEA conference.

“When the best of the best collegiate musicians from Missouri are assembled into one ensemble, each student is challenged to rise to a higher level of playing and musical achievement,” said Dr. Larry Dissmore, professor of music and director of the Evangel University Concert Orchestra. “The result is truly inspiring. The concert was outstanding.”

Lawler, music education major, is the daughter of Jay and Lisa Lawler of Quincy, Ill. Dissmore, music industry major, is the son of Larry and Gayle Dissmore of Springfield, Mo.
