SPRINGFIELD, Missouri – Evangel University will hold its first annual Veteran Valor Appreciation Luncheon for local veterans and active duty service members on April 14. There is no cost.
The luncheon will be held in the dining hall in Evangel’s student union from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The scheduled chapel service for the day will include special recognition for those who are serving or who have served in the military. The service begins at 9:45 a.m. in Spence Chapel and those attending the luncheon are invited to participate.
“Veteran Valor Day at Evangel University is an event to not only honor our American heroes, but to pass that respect and esteem for our veterans to the students that we serve,” said Dane Moore, Evangel’s veteran’s center director. “As a veteran, seminary alumnus, and staff member of Evangel University, it is a privilege to focus our appreciation towards the veterans of our community.”
The university has foundational ties to the military, as its campus was built on the grounds of the O’Reilly General Hospital, a facility built during World War II to treat wounded soldiers. The university is also home to the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary, one of the largest producers of military chaplains in the nation.
“We aim to instill virtue and valor in every student at Evangel,” said Dr. Michael Kolstad, EU chief of staff. “This event is a great way to allow our students and campus community to show their appreciation to the men and women who have shown virtue and valor in their service to our country.”
Veterans or active duty service members wishing to attend may register at evangel.edu/veteranvalorday.
