SPRINGFIELD, Mo. –– The Evangel University Social Work Program will host a volunteer fair from
11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., on Thursday, Sept. 19, in the Cantrell Student Union.
“This will be a one-stop shop for students seeking places to volunteer in our community,” said Lacey Nunnally, social work program director. “This year, there will be 10 agencies representing a variety of community needs.”
Senior social work major Taylor King has experienced the fair for the past three years.
“Going to the fair has always been a good experience. It is awesome to see the agencies represented and the opportunities to get involved in the Springfield community,” King said. “Part of Evangel’s culture is giving back to the community. As students, volunteering allows us to help others, show God’s love and make a positive impact on those around us.”
According to Nunnally, most of the agencies have witnessed a significant decrease in grant funding, so they rely on a strong volunteer base.
“Community agencies love Evangel students. They find a high level of dependability and commitment among our students,” Nunnally said.
Organizations attending the fair include the following:
- Boys & Girls Club
- Convoy of Hope
- Harmony House
- Hospice & Palliative Care
- Isabel’s House
- Lighthouse Child Development Center
- Meals A Million
- Pregnancy Care Center
- Seasons Hospice
- Missouri Department of Mental Health, Springfield Regional Office
