SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The Evangel University Social Work Program will host a luncheon on Friday, Oct. 12 at theBoys & Girls Club, Stalnaker Unit, in Springfield.
An alumni panel will be featured during the event which will begin at 11:30 a.m. All current students and alumni are invited to attend.
During the luncheon, Georgia Belin will be awarded the Evangel University Outstanding Social Worker Award posthumously.
Belin graduated from Evangel in 2002 with a Bachelor of Social Work degree. She was the social services director for the Assemblies of God Family Services Agency (AGFSA) from 2006 until the time of her death on Aug. 26, 2012. Throughout the course of her career, she served as director of social services for Hillcrest Children’s Home, Highland Maternity Home and Highland Adoption Agency.
She also worked at SHAPES Mentoring and served as a field instructor for the Social Work Program at Evangel University. She was a licensed clinical social worker for Missouri and Arkansas.
“Georgia was referred to by her friends and colleagues at AGFSA as the red-haired Italian fire ball,” said her husband, Jack Belin. “She had a fierce love for unwanted kids, the throw-aways of our society. The notes her kids sent her when she was in the hospital were revealing. If you don’t think social workers can change the course of lives, these notes from Georgia’s kids will change your thinking.”
Alumni Casey Cox ’01, Tammy Salmon ’05, Emily Read ’09, Anna Higley ’11 and Rachel Roy ’12 are among those who will be part of the luncheon Q&A session.
