Friday, Aug. 23 — EU Launch move-in day
Saturday, Aug. 24 — Weller Block Party — EU & Convoy of Hope
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — More than 500 new students from around the world are anticipated at Evangel University this fall, with a large percentage moving onto the campus Friday, August 23, 2019.
The six residence halls will open for EU Launch at 8 a.m., and new students will find faculty, staff and volunteers on hand to assist with the heavy lifting.
This year, Evangel anticipates students from 46 states and 23 foreign countries, ranging from Australia to Zambia — as well as The Bahamas, Brazil, Bulgaria, Cameroon, Canada, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, Guyana, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Korea, Myanmar, Nigeria, Poland, Singapore, Tanzania, Taiwan, United Kingdom and Venezuela.
Parents and families are welcome and encouraged to attend EU Launch. Special events are scheduled for them, Friday through Sunday afternoon.
Easing the transition
“Whether they are freshmen or transfers, the five-day new student orientation program is designed to equip our students academically, spiritually and socially to be successful in their college journey,” said Dr. Mike McCorcle, provost and executive vice president of Evangel.
The university endeavors to do this during the student’s first five days on campus by:
- Connecting them with faculty, staff and other students;
- Creating fun memories; and
- Igniting lifelong friendships.
Community Service — with Convoy of Hope at Weller Elementary
Evangel University will once again be partnering with Convoy of Hope on Saturday, August 24, for a community service day, as a part of EU Launch.
“We are excited that this year, Evangel University is partnering with Convoy of Hope to organize and run a Block Party at Weller Elementary,” said Dr. Donna Washburn, director of the Center for Compassion.
“Both new and returning students will serve the Weller Elementary neighbors, to include grocery distribution, haircuts by trained stylists, community services and more.”
In addition, more than 100 Evangel students will be working at the Convoy of Hope World Distribution Center at 330 S. Patterson Ave. in Springfield.
