Phi Beta Lambda

SPRINGFIELD, Missouri – Evangel University business students recently competed in the 2020-21 Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) competition, with seven students advancing to the national round and three students earning a spot amongst top 10 winners.

PBL is the collegiate branch of the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) non-profit organization whose mission is to inspire and prepare students to become community-minded business leaders in a global society through relevant career preparation and leadership experiences. Evangel is one of 350 PBL chapters across the country.

Each year, PBL hosts a National Awards Program, or competitive events, that recognize and reward excellence in a broad range of business and career-related areas. For many students, these events are the capstone activity of their academic careers.

Students who advance to the national level receive scholarship awards, participate in leadership sessions, and have the opportunity to network with industry leaders.

This year’s competition was virtual and included more than 12,000 participants from across the country.

Honored Students

Anna Bilton (top left), Max Bilton (top right), and Destin Wilson (bottom) earned a top 10 placement in the PBL national competition.

11 students from EU’s Business and Economics Department competed at the state level this year.

Three of those students earned a national top 10 placement within their respective events:

  • Anna Bilton, senior and Nonprofit Business & Social Enterprise major, placed second in both the Financial Concepts and Personal Finance events.
  • Max Bilton, junior and Business Management major, placed eighth in the Financial Concepts event and tenth in the Entrepreneurship Concepts event.
  • Destin Wilson, senior and Business Management major, placed second in the Insurance Concepts event.

“The student experience this year was different since PBL offered everything virtually, but we were grateful that there were still opportunities for students to attend career workshops, network with recruiters, and compete at the state and national levels,” said Dr. Sandra Cassell, PBL faculty advisor and assistant professor of business.
