Tell us about your career and what you do now.

I have been in the supply chain field for 10 years, the last seven being at Amsted Rail. I am involved with international buying and freight movement, along with an array of other procurement activities for our domestic plants – inventory and vendor management, negotiations, and strategic sourcing. Most recently, I launched a social media platform called the Manufacturing Procurement Guy. In this platform, I highlight manufacturing leaders who have recently won an award for their achievements in the field, blazing new technology trails, and of course, discuss supply chain strategy.

What is your favorite memory from Evangel?

Meeting my wife Elisabeth Brimer (Lisak), who is also a 2005 EU graduate! I also met a great group of friends that get together on an annual basis. Some of my other favorite memories are attending James River Church and a fair amount of shenanigans with my aforementioned friends.

How did Evangel help you identify/develop your calling?

I felt a calling to work in the business world, but I was not sure what that would look like or what specific field made the most sense. My instructors were not only subject matter experts, but they were all such great godly people! Bernie Dana and Gary Martindale have influenced my life in a tremendous way, and 15 years post-graduation, we still stay in touch! I will also say that it is OK to try different fields when you graduate, or even if you can attain internships, to find out what suits your desires and skillset.

How did your experience at Evangel prepare you for life after graduation?

I knew that I could make a difference in my career field as a Christian leader. The combination of Bible and Business classes were rigorous but equipped me to have a solid skillset in fundamental business principles, public speaking, networking, and the importance of growing in the Word.

What advice would you give a current student preparing for the workforce?

Not everyone has your best interest at heart. When you graduate there will be demanding bosses, tough colleagues, etc., but do not allow others to change WHO and WHOSE you are. As a believer, we are called and equipped – never forget that! Also, soak in Bible classes and chapel. My wife and I say frequently how much we miss chapel, gathering together to sing, and being taught the Word multiple times a week.

What would you look for if you were in a position to hire new graduates from Evangel?

Assertive. Coachable. Optimistic. Intentional. Always looking to learn and grow.
