Tell us about your career and what you do now.

While attending Evangel University, I began working in healthcare as a nursing assistant with CoxHealth. After graduating, I started my career as an RN. As an RN, I worked on a medical surgical unit, outpatient oncology, and outpatient infusion in both Missouri and Oklahoma. In 2022, I graduated with a Master of Science in Nursing with a focus in family nurse practitioner and passed my boards, I accepted a position to work as a nurse practitioner in a primary care clinic with the Mercy Health System in Springfield, Missouri.

What is your favorite memory from Evangel?

My favorite memory from my time at Evangel is time spent forming lifelong friendships and meeting my husband. Additional fond memories include time spent in the science and technology department, meals off campus, and watching intramural games.

How did Evangel help you identify/develop your calling?

Evangel encouraged the development of my calling through the professors I studied under. My professors at Evangel encouraged me to use my giftings to show people the love of Christ.  They helped me to see I can merge my healthcare calling with my faith in a practical way.

How did your experience at Evangel prepare you for life after graduation?

My experiences at Evangel prepared me for life after graduation by learning to be moved by compassion and love for those around me. I learned how to live out my faith in a practical and tangible way. During my Bible classes at Evangel, I was encouraged to continue to learn and seek out the things I believe.

What advice would you give a current student preparing for the workforce?

I would encourage current students to enter the workforce with career goals but continue to be open to the Lord’s leading for what your career path will look like.

What would you look for if you were in a position to hire new graduates from Evangel?

One thing that I have learned during my time in healthcare is the importance of continued education and collaboration. While working within healthcare, you are communicating with many different people with different educational and cultural backgrounds. Learning to communicate effectively with others is something that is of great importance in today’s healthcare systems.
