Tell us about your career and what you do now.

I am currently serving in my 15th year as a physical education teacher. I have also served as a football, basketball, track and tennis coach.

What is your favorite memory from Evangel?

Although I had the privilege of playing and competing in both football and track while attending EU, it still wasn’t my favorite moment. My favorite memory was shortly after having shoulder surgery a teammate asking me to help coach a powder puff team which led me to dating and later marrying my best friend Rachel who was playing on that team. We have been blessed to have celebrated our 15th year of marriage and have two beautiful kids.

How did Evangel help you identify/develop your calling?

It laid a foundation for me to build upon. President Robert Spence spoke some of my favorite chapel services, and his words of wisdom have stuck with me through the years. He inspired me to commit to being the best in my career.

How did your experience at Evangel prepare you for life after graduation?

I am thankful for the friendships I made at Evangel. I have been able to lean on these individuals who became more like family as well. These individuals have poured into me, have led by examples, and have opened doors of opportunities. I had coaches and educators who have supported me through my educational career as well.

What advice would you give a current student preparing for the workforce?

Don’t take any interaction for granted. Every interaction is an opportunity to either show your investment, or to damage your character. Be the employee you would hire if you owned the business.

What would you look for if you were in a position to hire new graduates from Evangel?

I would look for an employee with responsibility and respect. There is an element of congruence that I would hope to see. Does the individual show character and integrity in their verbal interactions as well as their daily actions? Do they show effort, goal driven actions and a motivation to do every element of the job? And last but not least, do their references speak highly of them?
