Tell us about your career and what you do now.

David’s been in banking, finance, and management for 25 years, but for a few years after graduation, he worked in real estate and mortgages. He mainly concentrates on business development for the bank he currently works for, Waypoint Bank. Most of his time is spent reviewing and analyzing projects, commercial real estate lending, underwriting loans, negotiating, and managing staff. He has been very blessed in his career and enjoys what he does. In addition, he has been active in various aspects of non-profits and ministry: speaking, leading worship, and counseling youth, men, and married couples. He also obtained his Master of Business Administration degree from Colorado State University and authored an inspirational autobiography, “From Bullied to Blessed.”

Steffani raised their three boys, volunteered in school and church, counseled youth and women, and has been the women’s pastor of a large church in Northern Colorado. She is currently a co-host of a Christian TV show called “God’s View” that is aired domestically and internationally. She is also in the process of writing her first book about her drowning accident when she was 13 years old, when she died and came back to life. She experienced her spirit leaving her body from the bottom of the pool and arriving at the gates of heaven. Steffani speaks at churches, women’s conferences, and retreats telling her amazing story of being raised from the dead. She has a heart for women and all who are hurt, lost, and in need of healing and salvation. Her encouraging speaking style brings life, hope, and encouragement to her listeners.

Both David and Steffani have a heart for the hurting and broken-hearted.

They thoroughly enjoy ministering together and just celebrated 32 years of marriage. Both David and Steffani are ordained ministers and are available to share and minister where ever God opens the doors.

What is your favorite memory from Evangel?

Their favorite memory was meeting their sophomore year and falling in love. It was the fall of 1987 on the sidewalk between Burgess and Krause Hall. David asked Steffani to marry him after dating for only two weeks. July 30th – only 10 months later – they were married in Longmont, Colorado, Steffani’s home town.

How did Evangel help you identify/develop your calling?

Developing relationships with other students, faculty, and local churches was instrumental to their learning and understanding of what God was calling them to do. There are many hurting individuals they crossed paths with while attending college, and being there for them was what helped them both in developing their love for other people. Ministry to David and Steffani is about empathizing, caring, praying, and lending a helping hand. David and Steffani keep it simple – when someone is hurting or in a fight for their life, they will pray right then and there. Even if it’s in a grocery store or a restaurant, they meet people in the time of their need.

How did your experience at Evangel prepare you for life after graduation?

Both David and Steffani believe the deepening of their faith and trusting God in every area of life while attending Evangel was instrumental. They recall when they got married and returned back to EU and had very little, if any, money. They enjoyed (or endured) a diet of top ramen and spaghetti! David played football, waited tables, and had a work study job while Steffani nannied full time for a Springfield family they grew very close to. Trusting God during that time to meet their needs, finish homework, take exams after working all night, and maintain a healthy marriage was ingrained into their character and still reflects in their life and relationship today.

What advice would you give a current student preparing for the workforce?

Be honest, trustworthy, and relational when you are preparing for work opportunities. Employees and people in general can see through someone that is fake and not being themselves. Great leaders lead by example and develop trust by being honest and personable with others. Stay humble and teachable, but at the same time, be confident knowing you are a child of the most-high God and He has blessed you with His favor and discernment to make the right decision every time. Ask for wisdom and pray daily for guidance and protection. God will direct the path of His children as He has their best interests at heart.

What would you look for if you were in a position to hire new graduates from Evangel?

David and Steffani would both look for honesty, humility, and ambition. Someone who is disciplined and has good work ethic are qualities they would look for.  Give specific examples of strong work ethic, reliability, and dependability when interviewing for a job. These qualities will go farther than having all the experience in the world. Show that you are energetic and excited, yet willing to learn to become the best that you can be.
