EU Global Connections is now Global Cultures & Compassion

Evangel University’s Global Connections program recently updated its name to Global Cultures & Compassion, reflecting the program’s focus on empowering students to engage cross-culturally with God’s compassion. Global Cultures & Compassion, a required course for all EU students, gives participants the opportunity to explore other cultures through supervised service trips.

“Due to the interdisciplinary nature of Global Connections, which also has cross-cultural elements of compassion, integrating compassion into the curriculum was a natural way to infuse a greater compassion emphasis across campus,” Jane Williams, Global Cultures & Compassion director, said.

Partnering with EU’s Center for Compassion, the new Global Cultures & Compassion course will provide students with deeper educational emphasis on the ways in which compassion motivates and empowers intercultural communication. The shift was prompted by increased student interest in humanitarian outreach, as well as EU President Mike Rakes’s strategic vision for fostering the development of compassionate innovators.

“Holistic cross-cultural engagement compelled by God’s compassion will empower our students to serve others in our community and around the world with humility, help us empathize with those who are suffering, and empower our students to become agents of God’s hope and change in a globalized world,” Williams said.
