SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Evangel University Jazz Collective will perform their spring concert on Tuesday, March 17, at 7:30 p.m. in the Barnett Recital Hall, under the direction of Joel Griffin, director of jazz studies.

Admission is free, and the public is invited to attend.

This is a unique concert, in that the EU Jazz Collective will be performing director Griffin’s music. Some of the songs are originals, and some are his arrangements.

Program

  • The Unseen, by Joel Griffin
  • Bebop A’Stink, by Joel Griffin
  • Tegan’s Eye, by Joel Griffin
  • Blue Monk, Arranged by Joel Griffin
  • Hello Pops, Arranged by Joel Griffin
  • Radioactive, Arranged by Joel Griffin
  • In the Wee Small Hours, Arranged by Joel Griffin

“The jazz combo setting is different from the large group big band setting,” said Griffin. “The jazz combo focus is much heavier on improvisation. This should be a great evening of jazz music.”

Griffin has been teaching at the college level for 11 years and is in his third year as director of jazz studies at Evangel University. Professionally, has performed with jazz legends such as The Cab Calloway Orchestra, Maynard Ferguson and Paul Mckee.
