Special guests: Glendale High School Men’s Ensemble
The Evangel University Music Department will present their 34th Annual Christmas Concert on Friday, Dec. 1, at 7:00 p.m., in the Robert H. Spence Chapel. The event is open to the public.
Admission is either a non-perishable food item or a cash donation to benefit the Salvation Army. Last year’s Christmas Concert at Evangel saw 1,017 food items and $1,240 in cash raised for the Salvation Army.
The exterior doors will open at 6:15 p.m. and the auditorium doors at 6:30 p.m. for the University’s popular holiday celebration.
The Suzuki Strings prelude will begin at 7:00 p.m., and the organ prelude by Mark Bowdidge will begin at 7:15 p.m.
More than 200 musicians will be performing in a variety of ensembles including the Evangel University Orchestra, University Chorus, University Chorale, Men’s Vocal Ensemble, Women’s Chamber Ensemble, HeartSong, and the ever-popular Jazz Orchestra.
Special guests this year will be the Glendale High School Men’s Ensemble.
“The Evangel Christmas Concert is more than a great night of music,” said Tom Matrone, chair of the Department of Music. “It’s about giving back to the community and honoring University traditions.”
The concert will include a carol sing with the audience led by combining the Chorus, Chorale, and the Orchestra conducted by Tom Matrone. The concert will also include “O Little Town of Bethlehem,” “Jingle Bells,” and “Joy to the World” to name a few.
The Salvation Army’s nationwide campaign enables them to provide food, toys and clothing to more than six million people during the Christmas season.
The concert will also be live-streamed on the Evangel website, for those unable to make it to town.
The Department of Music at Evangel University offers majors in music education, music performance, recording technology and worship leadership. The department is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music and the Missouri Association of Departments & Schools of Music.
