Published on Sep 15, 2015 by Kameron Nettleton

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. –Evangel University will host the 11th annual Student Leadership Forum on Saturday, Sept. 19 from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., presented by the Department of Behavioral and Social Sciences.

The forum includes breakout sessions led by campus leaders. This theme for this year’s forum is “IN.”

“Leaders are usually considered the ‘in’ people,” said Dr. Jon Spence, director of leadership studies at Evangel. “Our focus is the responsibility that comes with being in.”

The breakout sessions will cover these topics: Integrity, Including, Influence and Involvement.

Campus leaders who will be presenting include:

  • Gina Rentschler, director of community life
  • Christy Rowden, student activities director
  • Sherri Phillips, vice president of student development
  • Danica Spence, community life commuter coordinator
  • Jon Spence, director of leadership studies

“It is important to focus on how to equip campus leaders, especially early in the semester,” Spence said.

The event, geared especially towards Evangel students currently serving in leadership roles, is open to all Evangel students at no cost.

“Having on-campus faculty and staff members as the speakers provides students with an excellent network of resources for future conversations,” he said.

Evangel’s Department of Behavioral and Social Sciences offers an 18-credit academic minor in leadership. This minor may augment any major offered by the university. For those who already have a minor, Evangel also offers an eight-credit Leadership Fellows Program.
