Distinctive Department Spotlight: Hannah Baldwin, Curriculum & Instruction Leadership Online

“Figure out what you love to do, and then figure out how to get paid to do it.” When I was in my thirties, I considered Dave Ramsey’s wisdom. I was tired of jobs that were unfulfilling and paid little. I had felt led to work with young people, but I didn’t know in what capacity. The thought of being a teacher terrified me! Then I had several people encourage me to be one. My dad told me, “You know, you would make a great Family and Consumer Sciences teacher!” My husband and I had two young children and our income just wasn’t cutting it.

As I pondered Dave Ramsey’s words, I knew that I loved to cook and sew, and that teaching was a way to get paid to do it! So, at 37 I got my bachelor’s degree. But things didn’t go as planned, and I found myself working as an Administrative Assistant. I prayed that God would once again open a door for me to teach as I believed that was my calling.  I decided to prepare myself by working on my master’s degree.

A friend of mine from church told me that when she had student teachers from Evangel, they were always more prepared to become educators than the ones from other colleges. I looked into EU’s Curriculum & Instruction Leadership online program. It was affordable and something I felt like I could do! I love the Christ-centered perspective, and my professor’s have all been so encouraging, positive and have worked with my schedule.

God has been with me from the beginning, opening doors (I am teaching again!), helping me balance work, school and family, and reminding me that He has already given me everything I need to do what He has called me to do! If you are considering this program at EU, you won’t regret it. You will have a variety of classes to choose from, flexibility, support, and you’ll learn how to do your job with a focus on Christ.
