Chaplain (COL) Dr. David P. Hillis, USA (Ret)

David Hillis entered active duty in 1975 as a Chaplain Assistant and served over 33 years on active duty, 29 as an Army Chaplain and 4 as an enlisted Soldier retiring in April of 2014.

As an Army chaplain, he had multiple tours at home and abroad, most notably 4 separate tours of duty at Fort Bragg, NC with the 82nd Airborne Division and XVIII Airborne Corps which included a combat tour during the 1st Gulf War in 1991. His final assignment was as the Senior Chaplain at the United States Army Test and Evaluation Command, Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD.

His education includes a Bachelor of Arts in Biblical Studies from Evangel University, Master of Divinity from the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary, Master of Theology (Th.M.) from Duke Divinity School, Duke University, and Doctor of Ministry from Erskine Theological Seminary.

His decorations and awards include the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star, the Saudi Arabia/Kuwait Liberation Medal (with Battle Star), Kuwait Liberation Medal, and Master Parachutist Badge.

Chaplain Hillis currently serves as an Adjunct Professor at the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary on a part-time basis.

Chaplain Hillis and his wife, Sherry, live in Springfield, Missouri, and have 3 daughters and 11 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter.
