Dr. George Wood to be featured speaker at Evangel University Homecoming Banquet

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Dr. George Wood will be the featured speaker at Evangel University’s 2012 Homecoming Banquet. The banquet will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13, at the University Plaza Hotel and Convention Center.
In addition, the 2012 Alumni Association awards for Distinguished Alumnus, President’s Award, Outstanding Young Alumnus and Distinguished Service will be presented at the banquet.

About the speaker
Wood, a 1962 Evangel graduate, currently serves as the general superintendent of the Assemblies of God, USA, and as such he is a member of the denomination’s Executive Leadership Team and Executive Presbytery.
The Assemblies of God has more than 12,500 congregations in the United States with more than three million members and adherents.
Evangel’s Alumni Association named Wood its Distinguished Alumnus in 1978. Wood had served as EU’s campus pastor, director of student life, and director of spiritual life from 1965-71.
Prior to his present position, Wood served the AG as its general secretary for 14 years. He was assistant superintendent of the Southern California District from 1988-93, and pastored Newport-Mesa Christian Center in Costa Mesa, Calif., for 17 years.
The son of missionary parents to China and Tibet, Wood holds a doctoral degree in pastoral theology from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, Calif., and a juris doctorate from Western State University College of Law in Fullerton, Calif.
He did his undergraduate work at Evangel University (College) in Springfield, Mo. He was ordained by the Southern Missouri District in 1967.
Wood and his wife, Jewel, have a daughter and son.
