Mariah Cook presents senior voice recital at Evangel, Nov. 3

November 2, 2018 | Mallory Johnson

Mariah Cook will perform her senior voice recital at Evangel University on Saturday, Nov. 3, at 7:30 p.m., in the Barnett Recital Hall.

Admission is free, and the public is invited to attend. The Fine Arts Center is located just south of Evangel’s Spence Chapel, facing North Glenstone Ave.

A music education major, Cook is a native of Norwalk, Iowa, and is the daughter of Gary and Anne Cook.

During her time at Evangel, she has studied with Dr. Kevin Hawkins, associate professor of music, and Kathleen Cowens, adjunct instructor of flute.

“I have loved music as long as I remember, but my real passion is making an impact on students,” said Cook. “I want students to enter my classroom and feel like they matter. If students leave my classroom feeling empowered, I will feel like my job as an educator is complete.”

Her goal is to find a job teaching in the public school system in Springfield. “I would love to be teaching a choir and going to the state and national choir conventions,” she said.

Cook will be accompanied by Lisa Christenson on piano.

In addition, she will perform a duet with Kalise Garner, and as part of an ensemble with Kayla Kernsvaal, Sera Yockey, Kelly Lafon, Juliana Beatie, Leianna Cantrell, Jennifer Page, Kade Williams, Sean McLaughlin, Luke Carpenter, Nicholas Cole, Gregory Worthley, Joshua Little, Drew Hendrickson and Jonathan Martin.
