EU student Bryce Coday won first place in the recent Mixed Amateur 3 division in the PC-18 Open.

SPRINGFIELD, Missouri – Evangel University sophomore Bryce Coday gave Valor Disc Golf its first win with a first place in the Mixed Amateur 3 division in the PC-18 Open on March 25. Coday, an Accounting major from Hartville, Missouri, scored a -2, placing him four points ahead of the second-place finisher.

“I felt good about the way I played, especially since it wasn’t a close finish,” Coday said.

Coday’s win at the PC-18 Open was particularly notable, as it was his first competition as a member of the Professional Disc Golf Association and an EU disc golf player. Prior to August 2022, Coday had never played the sport.

“I started playing disc golf with some guys on my floor (at EU), and I fell in love with the sport. It’s fun and a great excuse to get out into nature,” said Coday.

“Bryce has already demonstrated his leadership among the team, and I am excited to see him excel in the sport,” said Mark Fabian, coach of the EU disc golf team and Evangel’s executive director of strategic partnerships.

EU’s disc golf team is part of its club sports program, which launched during the Fall 2022 semester. Other club sports at EU include CrossFit, bass fishing, beach volleyball, and bowling, with several additional sports to be added over the next two years.

 About EU club sports

Evangel’s club sport teams supplement its robust varsity athletic teams and provide additional opportunities for students to get involved in athletic competition. Club sports compete with other schools’ teams but do not fall under the university’s athletic conference and do not have varsity status.

Club sport teams are led by an athletic coach or by students with an EU advisor. Standards of enrollment status, grade point average, and community standing may be required for team membership. Scholarships are available.
