Production and performers

“Steel Magnolias” is a comedy-drama set in a small Louisiana beauty shop and follows the relationships of six women as they experience laughter, tears, and endurance through joy and tragedy. The play is based on Harling’s experience with his sister’s death.

“The appeal of “Steel Magnolias” is found in the strength of the relationships between the women who come to a beauty salon, the community hub, to experience life together,” said Lori Lawley, instructor of theatre at EU and the play’s co-director. “It’s a story of love and of grief, and a story of how life goes on.”

The cast features the following Evangel students:

  • M’Lynn – Anna Pratt, senior
  • Truvy – Olivia Ingamells, sophomore
  • Clairee – Peyton Allen, senior
  • Ouiser – Emily Jenkins, freshman
  • Shelby – Chloe Stoddard, junior
  • Annelle – Jolie Smallwood, freshman

“This show is about life and the people you meet along the way, who inevitably make life better,” said Peyton Allen, senior and cast member. “It’s been an honor bringing this show to life with some of the most talented women I’ve ever met.”
