FAQs

Do I have to be a music major or minor to be in the marching band?

No. All majors are welcome in the band.

What if I’ve never marched before, or only parade marched?

We have a place for everyone, even those who have never marched on a football field. The marching band will meet a week before school starts so everyone can learn the basics of field/parade marching.

What if I don’t play a marching instrument but still want to be in marching band?

The EU Marching Band has a front ensemble with auxiliary percussion and keyboard instruments (pit). Any student wanting to play piano, marimba, vibraphone, electric bass, or other non-marching equipment can still be a part of the band.

What fees are associated with marching band?

The only yearly expense for you is towards the cleaning of your uniform. First-time band members will pay for their marching shoes. Any extra (non-required) band attire not initially issued (extra polo, jacket, hat, etc.) may also be purchased if desired.

Am I compensated for the time I put in?

Scholarships up to $20,000 are available for members of the EU Marching Band! (Final scholarship offer dependent upon skill and ensemble need. The total offer will be comprehensive of all scholarships and grants including academic, fine arts, and other institutional aid.) Learn more.

Why should I be in marching band?

Marching/athletic bands are the heartbeat of fan support for athletic events. The EU Marching Band will be one of the largest student organizations on campus but maintains a “family” atmosphere with opportunities to make friendships and memories that last a lifetime.
