Spiritual Emphasis Week

I consider myself extremely blessed to attend a college where they are not only focusing on academics but on the spiritual life of the students, as well.
We recently had Spiritual Emphasis Week, which is an event we have each semester to help us focus on our relationship with God as individuals and as a student body. During Spiritual Emphasis Week, we have speakers from all over come, there are special Chapel services available to students, and worship is more outstanding than usual.
It is a unique time at Evangel because we witness amazing things happen for our school and in each other.
This semester we focused on “refusing the pew” and church planting. As a university we were challenged in our faith to take the leap for Christ in our relationship with Him.
My favorite speaker during the week was Dary Northrop, who is from my home state of Colorado. His message hit my heart in exactly the right places. Dary talked about challenges that life brings and holding onto God in those moments and not the “security” of the world that surrounds us. He brought humor that kept everyone laughing, but at the end of his messages he left us crying out to God for our generation and seeking Him to do amazing things in our hearts and lives.
During Spiritual Emphasis Week it is common to see students up front on their knees praying while others are engaged in fervent worship. But my personal favorite thing to see is students praying for other students. It is incredible when students come together and lift each other up in prayer. In those moments it doesn’t matter if you know the person or if you live in the same hall. The only thing that matters is what God is doing in that special moment.
If you decide to attend Evangel, I can guarantee one thing: If you seek after the Lord and open your heart, you will be surrounded by staff and students who are standing right next to you to encourage and pray for you. The culture at Evangel is a unique thing that is not seen at most campuses — and for that reason I have one more thing to add to my list of blessings.
