Community invited to spring music events at Evangel University

SPRINGFIELD, Missouri – Evangel University’s Music Department will present several musical performances this spring. All events are free, and the public is invited to attend.

Events include the following:

  • Faculty Brass Quintet Recital: Tuesday, March 28 from 7:30-9 p.m. in the Barnett Recital Hall
  • University Orchestra Concert: Tuesday, April 11 from 7:30-9 p.m. in Spence Chapel
  • Jazz Orchestra & Combo Concert: Thursday, April 13 from 7:30-9 p.m. in the Barnett Recital Hall
  • Symphonic Band Concert: Tuesday, April 18 from 7:30-9 p.m. in the Barnett Recital Hall
  • EU Choral Concert: Thursday, April 20 from 7:30-9 p.m. in the Barnett Recital Hall
  • Faculty Voice Recital – Claire Herzog and Traci Pritchard: Tuesday, April 25 from 7:30-9 p.m. in the Barnett Recital Hall

The Faculty Brass Quintet serves as the brass quintet-in-residence at Evangel University. Members are Tim Wootton and Darren Eddington (trumpet), Eric Jackson (horn), Matt Moore (trombone), and Bob Swanson (bass trombone). This spring’s concert will feature a wide variety of music, including Bach’s “Fugue in G Minor,” “Eleanor Rigby” by the Beatles, and several other selections.

The University Orchestra Concert will be directed by Dr. Larry Dissmore, director of orchestra activities and professor of music.

The Jazz Orchestra performs contemporary compositions and as well as jazz classics and sacred jazz arrangements. The ensemble will be directed by Mr. Justin Stanton, director of bands.

The Symphonic Band is a large ensemble open to any Evangel University student and provides the student body with an opportunity to continue participation in musical events regardless of major. The band will be directed by Mr. Justin Stanton.

The EU Choral Concert will be directed by Dr. Tom Matrone, chair of Evangel’s Music Department and director of choral activities. This concert will feature the university chorus, chorale, and men’s and women’s ensembles.

The Department of Music at Evangel University offers degrees in Music, Music Education, Music Performance, Music: Recording Technology, and Music: Worship Leadership. Each program is carefully designed to ensure that students build strong musical skills, gain professional training, and experience a wide range of musical activities.

The department is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music and the Missouri Association of Departments & Schools of Music.
