SPRINGFIELD, MO — The Evangel University graduation ceremony for 2020 has been rescheduled to a virtual commencement and a special video will be live-streamed this Saturday, August 15, at 11 a.m.
The 62nd Annual Commencement for Evangel is being held virtually due to public health considerations.
EU graduate and Emmy Award-winning journalist Steve Grant will be the commencement speaker.
“Hundreds of graduates have submitted photos in their academic regalia for the very cool 2020 Commencement video, which has been in production for several weeks now,” said Paul K. Logsdon, spokesman for the University.
The video will be posted to the Evangel website on Saturday.
There will be 524 graduates earning 35 doctoral, 97 master’s, 341 bachelor’s and 51 associate’s degrees. The majority of the AA’s are from Evangel’s James River College campus.
“While I’m still disappointed that we won’t be together, I’m so excited for our virtual commencement at 11 a.m. Saturday,” said President Carol Taylor in a message to the student body. “It will be a wonderful event and starts with a 15-minute countdown at 10:45 that recaps the year.
“If you can’t make it then or you’re planning a watch party at another time, you’ll be able to replay the commencement service later. You’ll also have the opportunity to download the video as well as the commencement program, which will be on the same website.”
The 47th Annual Commencement for the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary of Evangel will be an integral part of the virtual celebration.
There are 63 scholars from 27 states and four foreign countries graduating from AGTS this year — 28 earning doctoral degrees and 35 earning master’s degrees.
A live hooding ceremony for the master’s and doctoral students from AGTS will be held at 6 p.m. Friday evening, August 14, at www.AGTS.edu
