June 29-July 3
MCC 639 SP. STU.: The Buddhism-Hinduism Priority (8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.)
Instructor: Steve Lilly, Th.M., and visiting scholar/practitioners
Credits: 3
The contemporary world has brought the Hindu and Buddhist worlds to our doorsteps. No longer is it necessary to travel to South or East Asia to encounter followers of these two religious systems. Followers of both worldviews can be found in most countries today.
This course provides the student with a basic understanding of the beliefs and practices of both Hinduism and Buddhism. Principles for establishing evangelistic and discipleship ministries in these two contexts will be presented for the purpose of establishing the church wherever Hindus and Buddhists live in the world.
There are no prerequisites.
Hinduism:
- Overview of the beliefs and practices of Hinduism
- Building relationships with our Hindu neighbors
- Communicating the gospel in the Hindu context
Buddhism:
- Communicating the gospel in the Buddhist context
- Overview of Buddhism with specific attention given to Theravada, Mahayana, and Tibetan Buddhism
- Understanding and building relationships with our Buddhist neighbors

Professors and guest lecturers have all served in South and East Asian countries and bring many years of ministry experience in building relationships and communicating the message of Jesus in the Buddhist/Hindu contexts.
