Evangel postpones spring theatre production of Little Women: The Musical

Little Women: The Musical has been postponed by Evangel’s Humanities Department until the Fall 2020 semester. Details are still being worked out, but the six performances scheduled for this week (March 26-28) and next (April 2-4) will instead be performed in the fall semester, if campus operations have returned to normal by that time.

Little Women, the Musical opens at Evangel University on March 26-28 with showtimes at 7 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, and at 2 p.m. for a Saturday matinee on March 28. There is no night performance on the 28th. The show continues at Evangel on April 2-4, with evening shows at 7 p.m. Reserved tickets may be purchased online at:

Evangel University Orchestra, Sinfonia in concert, Feb. 25

The Evangel University Orchestra and Sinfonia will present a joint concert on Tuesday, February 25, at 7:30 p.m. in the Barnett Recital Hall. “As a highlight of the night, the Sinfonia will give a preview performance of selections from its new CD, which will be released in early April,” said Dr. Larry Dissmore, director.

Evangel prof publishes research on 17th century poet

Nathan H. Nelson (Ph.D.), professor of English and chair of the Humanities Department at Evangel University, has published a highly specialized book of original research findings — George Herbert’s 82: Psalmic Social Disorientation in “The Temple” — dealing with the writings of English author George Herbert (1593-1633).

Dedication of Torah scroll at AGTS of Evangel University, Feb. 6

Evangel University and the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary will host a solemn dedication ceremony for the authentic Torah scroll that was received last fall for academic purposes. The dedication will be at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 6, 2020, in the grand lobby of AGTS, which is located on the north edge of Evangel’s campus, at Glenstone and Division.

Leasha Ramey Bear Piano Scholarship to honor ’77 music grad

The Leasha Ramey Bear Piano Scholarship was recently established at Evangel University by her family to honor the memory of Leasha. A 1977 graduate of Evangel, she was a beloved music teacher in Willard and Springfield public schools for nearly 40 years. She battled cancer for the past 14 months and went to be with the Lord on Dec. 23, 2019.

President Taylor announces planned retirement from Evangel

Evangel University President Carol A. Taylor, Ph.D., today (Jan. 9, 2020) announced her planned retirement after seven years leading the institution. Speaking to students, faculty, and staff in chapel, Dr. Taylor said she plans to retire in August but agreed to stay on until the next president is in place.

Kern Family Foundation awards grant to expand 4+1 Fast Track ministry program at AGTS of Evangel University

The Kern Family Foundation in Waukesha, Wisconsin, recently awarded a grant to the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary of Evangel University to support expanding its accelerated master’s degree program. AGTS received this second grant to expand the 4+1 Fast Track Program for highly qualified students committed to full-time, long-term ministry in the United States.

EU Films premieres “While the World Slept”

EU Films will be presenting the student-produced science-fiction drama “While the World Slept” on December 12, 2019, at 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. in the Barnett Fine Arts Center. Admission for adults is $2, students $1, and Evangel students with an ID get in free.

Evangel students present “A Night on Broadway” to benefit Weller Elementary

Back by popular demand, a group of Evangel University students are producing “A Night on Broadway” Friday and Saturday, Nov. 22-23, at 7 p.m. Both musical productions are fundraisers to support the children at Weller Elementary school. The performances will be held in the theatre of the Barnett Fine Arts Center. Admission will be a donation of winter clothing items, school and art supplies, or a $5 cover charge.
